The Great Reality
Wake up! Look around!
Where is mankind going?
What are we doing with our planet?......
Population, pollution, poverty, decadence, wars and conflicts, famine,
and the perpetuation of unsustainable growth.
Some, of an endless list of problems that face mankind today;
and what are we doing about it?
Apart from tinkering at the edges...... nothing?
We think we are dealing with our problems but only when necessity forces us to.
On the whole we are blind. Blind to the inevitable consequences of our inaction.
But that’s not all we are blind to....we just don’t see it.
“It”
The catch, the fundamental flaw.
How does one explain something of such enormity?
That has less weight than a feather and yet carries the weight of nothing less than the survival of life;
and all in nothing more tangible than a thought, a plausible reality.
In spite of an analytical mind well capable of realising “it”
we just don’t see the nature of our existence for what it is.
“It”, is just one small truth whose implications are so unpalatable to man’s ego he doesn’t look at or begin to consider its possibilities.
Plain to see and yet blind to our sight, the knowledge of which provokes the greatest of contentions;
but without a reality of its truth, it can be dismissed with the shrug of a shoulder, in apathy.
It is hidden in the answer to a very simple question:
“what motivates man?”.
The IT = his animal instinctual nature....
To survive.

It is hidden in the answer to a very simple question:
“what motivates man?”.
The IT = his animal instinctual nature....
To survive.
We can not escape the fact that as an animal, our primary directive is an innate compulsion to survive. It is not a choice, we are slaves to living; coerced and manipulated by the fear of pain and death. The focus of this survival directive emanates form the individual; it is a selfish egotistical survival.
It is from the agenda that these circumstances create, we approach all our decision making:- Behind any decision made, lies the agenda that initiated a decision conundrum, we think that in making a given decision we have exercised our free will, our autonomy, but little do we recognise the agenda that belies it, is not of our making.

What motivates man? We think we do; that we are the orchestrator of our own existence. We think we are in control of our own destiny; but in reality, we, like all other life, are the captives of a simple set of instructions: “survive and procreate”. Nothing more. Man is running in a competitive race... a game where he is programmed, coerced and manipulated into playing. This is The Great Reality that comes with an unacceptable suggestion, an implication that that offends his ego to the extent it makes him blind to admit the truth of his circumstances; he could be seen as little more than an automaton, a puppet, set to play the game.
Oh yes, mankind can do "good acts" from within the game, Our history is peppered with individuals that have expressed their empathic beliefs through social reform, benevolent leadership and even those that rise to horrific events with selfless acts of bravery but as a whole mankind lives his life enslaved to the instinctual. Yes he can exercise immense control over many aspects of his environment; his creativity ingenuity and imagination are almost boundless but ultimately all are of little consequence as his primary self preserving motivations remain the same. Living life in ignorance or denial of his circumstances allows man to live with a felt conviction of his autonomy, that he is the orchestrator of his own destiny.
Success: we, particularly in our western culture, strive to be successful, driven from childhood by competition, to be better; better at being successful, better than our fellow man. But such a compulsion has become an obsession to the point we can't stop being comparative in terms of our striving to be successful. Nothing (we attain) is enough; we continue to greater and greater wealth, to opulent decadence, well passed the threshold necessary for survival.
Our instinctual nature has become a runaway mechanism; with seven billion of us and no natural predators, mans survival is not at stake, and yet the alarm bells of anxiety clang in our minds as we live in an increasingly more populated world, sending our instinctual nature into overdrive; we see greater wealth as protection, as security against becoming the poverty we see around us. Without recognising the nature of his motivation with all its implications mankind can not hope to do anything that will be a real change to his existence. But in recognising The Game and his controlled existence in it, he can change everything. He can then see why we make decisions in the way he does, he can modify and change the nature of his attitudes and decisions.
So what now evolution? That such a mechanism, having brought us to this point (of success), should now be the apparent orchestrator of our apocalypses would be perverse?
To speak of design implies a designer but for a moment to imagine no such connotation, (to avoid risk of controversy,) let me proffer: that what ever was being sought in the evolutionary race was found in man. That goal, that aim was an animal that with the combination of language, intellect and the ability to think in complex abstracts. Such a combination of abilities allowing him to become aware of his own existence and consequently to discover and analyse the mechanisms of life; the nature of his existence. From such knowledge; such an awareness comes the ability to modify, the means to that objective. To survive is still the objective of life but to achieve that with a selfish competitive motivation is no longer sustainable.
The “Great Reality” might well be seen as the next element in the evolution of life, were man can alter the nature of his existence. It lies in nothing more than in a mental recognition and acceptance of a reality, but from which comes the most fundamental changes in his attitudes and motivations to everything he does and thinks.
One thing unites all living things in a commonality: to survive
One thing divides all life: selfish competitive survival.
To Love, is to change the competative ellement from "competitive survival" to communal survival, not as some dreamy utopian fantasy but as a logical attitudenal devlopment. ... as one might to childerend in a play ground "Play nicely" ... we are all in this play-ground game of survival, we should play nicely and not be bickeing and fighting but be careing and sharing to the benifit of all life, not just mans existance.
May be this is the age of Aquarius; the “coming of age” of man in his 21 century of his history?
For me, this plausible, logically deduced theory gives me hope for the future; hope for real “good” and not just tinkering at the periphery of our many problems. Because it gives a fundamental change in attitude where man does not have to be set against his fellow man, where greed and and power does not have to rape our fragile planet, where our sense of values are not set to a supply and demand culture but where harmony of purpose takes care of all life; to be the custodians of what is still the most amazing unique thing in the known university: life.

Tangled Constructions

I wonder:
What tangled constructions are so woven to make the soul of man?
What recipe sets the elements so proportioned as to cook an
“Essence of perversity”
That is man?
To set the contradictions
Of love and hate,
Of heroic selflessness yet shameless greed,
To be the most ingenious of builders and yet be best of destroyers?
And I wonder
What fuels the engines of man’s motivation,
To drive both,
Selfless passions to the gates of heaven
And yet greedy desires to the depth of hell,
For caring compassion to hold the hand of Complacency?
The most wonderful and dread full of animals
Yes, an animal...
The same,
Yet different.
I wonder
What distinction sets this paradox?
Where in the convoluted meanderings of evolution,
Did man loose the innocence of “being”?
To be and yet be not aware of one’s “being”.
Is an innocence born of ignorance
That is the mark of lesser life.
So evolution has runs its course to produce a being
With swollen head and waging tongue
To heralded the birth of man.
To talk
Words,
Communicate,
And in words to think,
In abstraction
And man is set apart by a speck of knowledge
“I know I am being”.
The Awareness of his own existence,
And with that ceases
“To be” (in ignorance)
And gains the complexity that is a human condition,
And is like God.
“I am”.
Man with such knowledge is touch,
Blessed/cursed,
*********
For head to talk to heart and soul.
And ever did a conversation make such a change,
For then indeed was the fruit of the tree of Knowledge eaten.
To know of our “being” is the awareness that robed us of our innocence.
To conceptualize ourselves
As an entity, in abstraction,
To analyze the state of “being”
To Question
Who, what, why.
And more
To quantify, compare
Good, better, best.
And so like infant twins from Pandora's Box escaped the notions;
Good, Bad,
Cloaked in regiments
Of love and justice
Guilt and shame
To perplex the soul of man.
So with new found eyes
Man could look at man.
And see what?
A prince amongst animals
Or the Devil incarnate?
*******
No
Just life
Trapped in the struggle for existence
The difference?
He knows it as such.
